I went to a meeting last night launching Ultherapy or Ulthera in Australia.
The idea of Ultherapy is to used high intensity focussed ultrasound to create little thermal zones in the SMAS in order to create a face tightening effect. However, on viewing the best before/after photos the presenters could muster, it seemed that the principal effect was to reduce neck fat. High intensity focussed ulttrasound is already known to target fat – this is the principle behind “Ultrashape”, a hugely-expensive, barely effective device that runs along the same idea.
The very best Ulthera results were comparable to the routine results we see in neck liposuction.
Patients with less fat saw results similar to those we see with lipodissolve (phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate).
So I don’t need to spend $90,000 on one of these machines – I’ll just keep doing what I am doing thanks.
